ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
MEETING:
President Michael Kvistad started the 30th meeting of the year and the 5,580th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance.
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Ashley Bolden presented a quote from Ernest Holmes - “Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.”
INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Susie from the Providence General Children’s Association is taking orders again this year for Valentine’s Day candy. All proceeds go to children’s programs such as Camp Prov.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Kelli Thode reported about the Recovery Cafe’ coffee hour Friday, January 31 at Noon. The event was well attended, and everyone had a great time.
Kelli also encourages all members to attend the district 5050 Conference being held May 2-4 and the Tulalip Resort & Casino. There are two tickets remaining for free admission. Contact Kellie for more information. She also recommends viewing the Club Runner Website calendar to keep up to date on all things Rotary.
Ashley Bolden reminded us about Rotary after hours and the Jetty Bar and Grill Wednesday, February 5 at 5:00.
President Michael Kvistad presented a striking photo of The Dark Side of the Moon with earth in the background. Kari Petrasek was the first to name Pink Floyd as the artist of the 50-year-old album.
Zeb Cobbs unfortunately had a stroke last December. He is doing well and is in room 620 at Bethany. He would love to have visitors. He is moving back home next Thursday February 13.
HAPPY DOLLARS/BIRTHDAY BUCKS:
President and Head Basketball Coach Michael reported on his daughter’s 5th grade basketball team being handed another defeat on the scoreboard, but the team is winning in effort and spirit. He was proud of the team’s resilience and is amazed how the shortest players on the team are getting the most rebounds. The meek shall inherit the earth but the aggressive get the ball.
Anna Marie Laurence has a birthday this Friday and is celebrating with dinner at Serafina Italian Restaurant in Seattle. The bell rang.
Walt Greenwood is celebrating his birthday with the Vintage Motorcycle Club in Mount Vernon. It was also a bell ringer.
RAFFLE:
There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.
- Winner Number 1 –Steve Juntwait selected red wine
- Winner Number 2 –Larry O’Donnell selected cookies and spread.
- Winner Number 3 – Jim Schrader selected an axe hand tool.
PROGRAM:

President Michael led club in a lively match of Jeopardy! The membership was divided into four teams. Team leaders were Rise Ups – Paul Stoot, Magic - Larry O’Donnell, Questioners – Walt Greenwood and Air Heads – John Olson. The categories were: US Presidents, World Capitals, Authors, Classic Movies, and US History.
After a copious number of hints and second chances several of the answers were correctly presented as a question. Points were awarded by President Michael for correct answers in an arbitrary fashion. On the final question, Larry O’Donnell answered the question correctly but the points were awarded to Team Rise up. This propelled Team Rise Up to victory and the winning prize of Rotary branded M&M’s. Everyone had a great time with lots of fellowship.
