ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
 

President Michael Kvistad started the 15^th meeting of the year and the 5,565^th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance

 

Ryan Willis presented the lyrics of a song from his high school days about relationships. The song is “Hold on Loosely” by 38 Special.  “Hold on loosely. Don’t let go. If you cling too tightly you will lose control.”

 

Walt Greenwood sang a lovely song about friendship from his 100-year-old book of poems that still pertains today.

 

Ashley Bolden introduced her 2-year daughter Stella. She enjoys scootering barefoot in the sunshine.

 

Ashley Bolden informed us about the Recovery Café annual “Love in the Soup” fund raiser this Saturday at 5:30 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Everett. Funds raised will be used for long-term recovery support for people healing from trauma and substance abuse.

 

Board Report: President Michael mentioned Happy Bucks are down, so it is time to be happy and dig a little deeper. World Community Service members are headed back to the Dominican Republic for more good works. The blood drive in conjunction with the Elks Club is going strong and they are looking for a few more volunteers to donate.

 

President Michael is encouraging all male members to join in Movember by growing a mustache for the month of November to celebrate Foundation Month. Michael will donate $1000 to the Foundation for 10 members to grow a stache. Before and after pictures will be taken. Buy your State Trooper Stache Wax and celebrate Foundation Month.

 

Polio Plus: Please consider a $100 donation to Rotary International’s Polio Plus to continue the fight to irradicate Polio. The conflict in Gaza is delaying vaccinations and the number of cases is unfortunately increasing.

 

Cat Wilson presented a few great ideas on changes to the Student of the Month presentation that we will all enjoy. The first Student of the Month presentation will be next week.

 

Kelli Thode spoke about several Fellowship opportunities the Membership Development Committee is working on to encourage member participation and community service. There will be a wine tasting at Port Gardner Winery on November 13. Co-workers, friends and family are welcome to attend.

 

Larry O’Donnell shared the sad news that longtime Everett Rotary member Reed Hale passed away.

 

Larry also updated us about former Everett Rotary member Kim Buike is a contestant on The Golden Bachelorette. Unfortunately, he did not receive a rose in last week’s episode.

 

Heather Barnhardt shared her wonderful trip to Ireland and Italy with her husband.

 

There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.

Ryan Willis introduced Chelsea Ongaro and Morgan McGrath with Community Transit who spoke to us about the new Swift Gold Line and Zero-Emissions program. Community Transit is preparing to dramatically improve transit service for Arlington, Marysville and Everett by expanding the Swift Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network with the Swift Gold Line. Swift BRT service will offer shorter waits between buses, faster and more reliable service, and connections to congestion-free Link light rail that arrives in Lynnwood and Everett in future years. BRT service will help create economic and environmental benefits. The cities of Everett, Marysville and Arlington are planning for future population and job growth in their communities. By 2050, Snohomish County will see a 24% increase in population and a 19% increase in jobs. CT is currently exploring options for maximizing the benefits it will bring to riders and community members.

 

CT is also testing a 40-foot battery-electric and a 40-foot hydrogen fuel cell electric bus to add to their Zero-Emission Fleet Transition. With both Zero-Emissions buses CT has undertaken a year-long study to evaluate and develop an operationally, fiscally, and environmentally sustainable strategy that will benefit transit riders and our community for generations to come.

 

President Michael thanked Chelsea and Morgan for the presentation and adjourned the meeting.
