THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Kevin Daniels quoted Stephen Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. “Strength lies in differences, not in similarities”. Kevin educated us that today is national left handers day, of which only 10% of the population is.

MUSIC:
Walt Greenwood played and sang the up-beat Camp Fire Song, “Home on the Range”.

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
There were no visiting Rotarians in person or on ZOOM. Today’s speaker, Parker Miller, had his father in attendance. No other guests were in person or in the ZOOM.

President Michael gave us the following Olympic highlights:
-  Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone from team USA, smashed the women’s world record in the 400m hurdles.

HAPPY DOLLARS AND BIRTHDAY BUCKS:
Past President Neil gave $20.00 to celebrate Julien Alfred, from Saint Lucian who won the women’s 100m track race in 10.72 seconds.

Betsy Baker-Bold talked about the Olympic marathoner who finished in 71st place and what was impressive is that this runner has been in six Olympics and had finished the marathon
each time. (Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name, and my internet search also failed me).

Past President Will McMahon was happy to have been with four grandchildren (or was it, great grandchildren) on a recent trip to Colorado.

President Michael was happy for his Dad, Anniversary, and Fishing. (I obviously didn’t get the whole picture but if you take the three subjects and your imagination you can come up with a good story)

RAFFLE:
Winner number 1 - Betsy Baker-Bold selected the Whiskey

Winner number 2 - Past President Tiz selected the chocolates that were donated by Past District Governor Bev Harrington who brought them from Guatemala.

Winner number 3 - Past President Mark Valentine won a Rotary Tee Shirt.

PROGRAM:
Betsy Baker- Bold introduced our out-bound Rotary Youth Exchange student Parker Miller.  Parker attends Everett High School and is in the class of 2026.  He will be leaving soon for his year in Japan.

Parker shared that he has been preparing for his exchange through Rotary 5050 programs getting out-bound students ready for their year abroad.  From his required research on
Japan the enthusiastic Parker shared the following:
-  Japan is the largest island country in East Asia.
-  There are frequent earthquakes.
-  Shrines are commonplace and are a significant symbol of
   their religion and culture.
-  Rice and fish are common ingredients in their meals.
-  They use a lot of wood in their buildings as it is plentiful,
   warm looking, and workable.
-  Their economy is the 3rd largest in the world.
-  They love to watch baseball and sumo wrestling.

Parker thanked Janice Ellis for all she has done to help him, and his family navigate his journey through the application process, selection process, the preparation/education process, and soon to his departure to Japan.

Past District Governor Bev Harrington, from Burlington, talked briefly about the YES program that she started several years ago, and about Will Kilmer a student our club sponsored last year who went to Guatemala to install stoves with other YES students and Rotarians.  Will wasn’t available to attend today’s meeting but will speak to us at a future meeting.

President Michael thanked Parker’s father who was here and in turn Parker’s father thanked Rotary who provided this opportunity for Parker.

Kyra Jorgensen from Helion
