Everett Rotary Meeting – September 18th 2018

Greetings and a smile upon arrival today were provided by two of our distinguished members Danny Tetzlaff  & Paul Pitre.

President Amy Norman called the meeting to order (Her 12th) and led us in The Pledge of Allegiance.

The thought of the day was Presented by Ron Thompson. Ron shared with us his thoughts on thinking. Reading statements that “Make you think”, Ron read quotes about positive thinking, accomplishment, life, planting the seeds of thought and finally, a quote from Abraham Lincoln about talking with another person.

Jim Staniford introduced Jonathan Sosa of the Port Gardner Rotary Club.

Guests to our meeting were Judge Edrin Okoloko, introduced by Judge George Bowden and Judge Richard Okrent, introduced Judge George Apple. Lots of Judicial love in the room today!

Announcements:
President Amy Shared with us that she had noticed many of our fellow Rotarians being mentioned in the Everett Herald in the last week. She recognized Judge Richard Okrent for his write up last week. Richard thanked Ralph Quaas and the folks at the New Everett Library and the Brown Bag Luncheon Association for letting him be the Host Speaker at their September 13TH meeting. Oh and Judge Okrent was $50 happy for being the speaker at the Library and $100 Dollars happy for having Judges Bowden, Apple and Okoloko  put up with him as they do.

New Club member Garth Fell gave his Classification speech. Garth gave thanks to his sponsor Sonja Kraski and spoke to us about his professional story with the Snohomish County Government Elections and personal story sharing with us photos of his Wife Sarah and 3 children. Welcome Garth!

Tina Gilson Showed us all how to access our Club’s Photo Roster that is available on the Club Runner Web site. Instructions on how to log in and search the Members area for Club and Member information. Also, Tina shared that at the “Apple i-Store” and “Google Play” sites there is a Club Runner App for our Smart devices.

Brian Hollingshead provided an up date on the Happy Hour Social. The meeting last Thursday was a very good time and was attended by approximately 12 Club members. The Social’s future meetings like the last will be held on the 2ND Thursday of each month at the Marriott Hotel on Colby Ave.

President Amy reminded us that the deadline for Rotary Shirt orders is September 25th so if you haven’t, now is a good time to get your Rotary gear.

Todd Morrow announced information about the Annual Fund Raiser with the theme “Be the Inspiration” Hopes that all members with donate a minimum of $350 and that monthly payment plans are available for your generous contributions.

Kari Petrasek announced the Everett Rotary Halloween contest. On the 30TH of October we will be holding a Halloween costume contest where their will be prizes for the Top 3 costumes. Also we will be honored with a visit from our Rotary District Governor as a special guest.

HAPPY DOLLARS & BIRTHDAY BUCKS:

Don Senter was $20 Happy for his long friendship with George Bowden.

Not to be out done, George Bowden was Happy as he has stood for over 6 Elections in his career and that not a single voter ever voted against him. George went on to say that in keeping with the 4 way test, and being completely honest, as judges do, no one had ever voted for him either as all the elections were un-contested. Congratulations George!!

Past President Will McMahan gave a bell ringing $100 Happy Dollars but split it into $70 Birthday Bucks for his 70TH Birthday, $25 for the wonderful week long trip to New York that he and Karen just returned from  and $5 as a Plea to Garth Fell. Garth,  Mrs. McMahan would like it if Garth could put a voting station near their home as she misses being able to physically go to a station to cast her ballots.

Visiting Rotarian Jonathan Sosa donated $20 and announced that at the Port Gardner Club, they are holding a fundraiser to raise funds for fellow fallen Rotarian, Shawn Jorgenson (has 7 kids & spouse) who passed from IV Stage lung cancer.  If you attend, please let me know (this is a make-up opportunity).

Mark Valentine gave $20 Happy Dollars and gave a report about the Music For Life donations.

Today’s Raffle winners were, Paul Pitre, John Olsen  and Tom Koenig. Congratulations!
