THE ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT The Rotary meeting of July 10, 2018 #2 (5260) was called to order by President Amy Norman, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Thought of the Day was presented by Rose Goulet, a brand new “Nonni,” the affectionate name for grandma in Rubatino family (Italian short for Nonnina).. Her thought focused on the 4 Way Test which reminds us of what binds all Rotarians of the world together.

Suzanne Britsch introduced David Chan, former member of the club and remarked on meeting the Past District Governor of Korea and thanked Susan Bachman for helping out by being a Greeter along with Russ Hermes this morning.

 

*Glen Bachman was sworn in to the new board of officers by Tom Rainville with the proper pomp and circumstance.

 

*Aquasox’s Fellowship on Aug 2nd was announced by Tony Orso, cost is $25.

 

*Greg Lineberry invited the ;members to a Beer & Justice event on July 13th support legal aid for low income families in Snohomish County Greg Lineberry also announced a trip to Dajabon to deliveer wheelchairs with the Lake Stevens Club and chided Janis Ellis to stay on the gound. *Janis Ellis reminded members that additional host families are needed for our student from Peru and told us that they didn’t need to be Rotarians if they knew of someone interested. *Larry O’Donnell read a touching thank you letter from Richard Hanson’s wife and family for the memorial comments given for Dick at a recet meeting and came with a bellringer gift to the club. Most of the Happy Bucks: Rose was obviously thrilled at being a new grandmother; David Chan is running for PUD commissioner; /ed was proud at becoming a “Great”;;

 

Apologies to Bob Bavasi, Judge Bowden, and Deane amd Danny because my computer died and I was locked up trying to get it back on and missed your stories of happy bucks. The Raffle was won by Andy Hall, Ed Rubatino, David Chan and Mark Valentine won the raffle which included a license plate, wine, a t-shirt, and an assortment of blueberry gifts.

Suzanne Britsch introduced the program which was “Canadian Wheelchair Foundation” presented by Christiana Flessner. Christiana, the Executative Director of the foundation, gave a touching presentation about the gift of mobility being a way to teach and be the example for peace around the world. She showed a video which included a man who expressed that he was grateful to be “clean” since he got his wheelchair who went from a begger to a businessman, providing access for children, and a lady who was able to go outside and be with her family before she passed away. She thanked the Rotary Clubs for hanging the world, for their huge hearts. She noted that the wheelchairs were going to the Dominican Republic, cost between $150 and $170 and came which wheels appropriate for the terrain and a package of spare parts. President Amy thanked our speaker with—A Wheelchair! She also thanked the guests and donors and gave a special thank you to Walt Greenwood for his marketing and public relations skills. Rotary Log Everett Rotary Meeting - July 17th 2018 Warm greetings today courtesy of Tammy Dunn and Jennifer Rancourt. President Amy opened the meeting (her 3rd) leading all in The Pledge of Allegiance.

She was ably assisted by The Everett AquaSox’s own Webly.

 

Thought of the Day Presented by Todd Morrow - A wonderful story about humanity in general and one of the students from The Thai Cave Rescue in particular.

 

Visiting Rotarians Jennifer Rancourt introduced visiting Rotarians Harv Jubie, Connie Wittren, Shawn O’Donnell, and Jim Haugen. Guests Webly from the AquaSox, Hayley Statema, Zach Rzuse, and Bill Harper.

 

 

Announcements • Jennifer Langbehn, our 15th Superior Court judge, proposed by Judge George Bowden, was inducted by President Amy.

 

 

• Danny Tetzlaff gave us a great preview of the upcoming fellowship opportunity at the August 2nd Everett AquaSox game.

• Greg Lineberry told us all about The World Community Service trip and wheelchair presentations to Dajabon.

• President Amy offered all an opportunity to participate (for a nominal fee) in the upcoming Safe Deposit Box opening

. • HAPPY DOLLARS / BIRTHDAY BUCKS • Don Senter was “bell-ringer” happy about celebrating his 80th.

• Larry O’Donnell was happy to see all our visitors and let us know he is not related to Shawn O’Donnell.

He also remembered Jim Shields, Everett Parks director, who recently passed away.

• Steve Miller and Jim Schrader were both happy about a recent “Boat Bash”.

• Mark Valentine mentioned something that I missed.

• Janice Ellis read a note from our inbound exchange student, happy to have her first host family.

• Jim Haugen told us all about the opportunity to participate in the annual Lake Stevens club “Duck Dash” - Their primary fundraiser. Raffle Bob Beil, Katrina Koontz, and Allison Warren-Barbour all took home raffle prizes.

Program “Business Etiquette” - presented by Arden Clise This was an interesting program designed to help everyone by more confident and comfortable in business/social settings.

Arden covered such things as why we should wear our name tags on the right side, and how to handle forgetting someone’s name. Additionally, she pointed out the negative effects of looking at our phone or around the room during a conversation. More importantly, she taught us which utensils to use and how to identify our bread and water in a dinning situation. This was a fun program.
