Donate $100 yearly to the Rotary Foundation.

We were welcomed by Greeters Joe Claeys & Joe Gaffney.
 
President Will McMahan started his 19th meeting of the 2017-2018 year with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Thought of the Day came to us by PP Marc Baker. Marc recognized our veterans and reminded us that 11.11 was named Harvest Day which meant “Celebrate Peace”. Rotary International is about World Peace. Marc recognized the Rotarians who are Paul Harris members.

  1. President Will McMahan - District Foundation Dinner, Nov. 18th, Newlands Golf Club, Langley, BC – Club pays registration for first-time attendees.
  2. Clay Browse – stated that the Membership Committee is looking for categories: Drug Stores, Machine Shop, and Retail – Sporting Goods
  3. Janice Ellis – gave an update on the Rotaract event on Nov. 9th. There were 21 Rotarians, 13 Rotaract members and 1 Interact member at the event.
  4. Amy Norman – update on the Happy Hour at Mazatlan Restaurant on Wednesday, Nov. 15th from 5 pm – 7 pm.
  5. Joe Gaffney – Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner is Dec. 8th. Please sign up. You may sign up on the form at table or online.
Happy Dollars/Birthday Bucks & Raffle:
Many were happy today. I will report backwards and start with the Raffle Winners.  Visiting Rotarian Sharon Berry, Todd Morrow, and Larry O’Donnell were the winners of wine and chocolates.

Program:
November is Rotary International Foundation Month. Maddie Metzger-Utt started with a video about Rotary International and the various projects Rotary Foundation funds. One project is the fight against Polio. There are three countries in the world that have polio cases. If Rotary International eradicates polio then this will be the second disease in the world that has been “wiped out”. Chicken pox is the other disease. Rotary Foundation has funded $3 billion in projects.
How do we fund programs? Rotary Foundation receives monies through our donations. Our club has funded $110,000 for projects. Our club helps fund these program with every dollar the club gives, the District Designated Funds matches the dollar. Rotary Club of Everett has received a grant in each of the last four years (2014/15 – 2017/18). These grants help support our local projects.
Paul Harris Society has raised $1.2 million. The Rotary Club of Everett asks each member to be a sustaining Paul Harris member by donating a minimum of $100 per year to the Rotary Foundation. In the month of November, we have three ways for you to have a chance to receive a Paul Harris. One way is to buy a Paul Harris at a discounted rate of $700. Second way is pay $100 to the PH-art box for the opportunity to be one of the five names drawn to receive a Don Senter painting. Third way is to buy a playing card for $50 and at the end of the month a playing card with a name will be drawn for a chance at a Paul Harris.
Why give to the Rotary Foundation? We are making a difference by helping those who need our help most, allowing our donations to go farther as we have partners, such as the Gates Foundation, and can make lives better in our communities and the world. Past District Governor/Past President Tom Rainville talked about why he contributes and has become a major donor.
