THE ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
 
LEADING OFF
President Kelli Thode rang the bell at 12:01pm, calling to order meeting #5604 of The Rotary Club of Everett and meeting #4 of her presidency. She then led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
The Thought of the Day was also presented by President Kelli, who quoted Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo’s message of shared dreams, membership, peace and uniting for good.
 
VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS
Betsy Baker-Bold introduced prospective member Henry Janicki, who shared a story about putting party hats on steers.
 
ANNOUCEMENTS  
President Kelli mentioned cards for Bruce Timm’s wife, Jessica, who shattered her kneecap, and PP Marc Baker who is in the hospital.
 
President Kelli also announced Happy Hour at The Muse on Thursday, July 24th, 5:30-6:00pm, also the board meeting on Friday, July 25th, 7:30am. The meeting is online.
 
President Kelli mentioned the blood drive on Friday, August 29th, 10am-3pm at the Everet Elks Club.
 
Janice Ellis discussed the friendship exchange with Rotarians from Hungary September 20-24th. Hosts are needed.  
 
PP Niel Angst mentioned a gathering this afternoon at Everett Golf & Country Club, honoring Bill Tsoukalas.
 
Sharon Gomez announced the women’s expo at the Hotel Indigo on September 6th.
 
Ryan Willis shared a story about attending the district installation in Surrey, BC. His girlfriend forgot her ID at the border, so they were unable to attend. He also mentioned that there are updates on district news on LinkedIn and Facebook.
 
HAPPY DOLLAR$ 
  • Ryan Willis enjoyed Paul Stoot’s celebrity golf outing.
  • Betsy Baker-Bold had $20 for support for her dad.
  • Janice Ellis went back east and saw some old friends and family,
  • Krissy Davis was happy to be nominated for Leadership Snohomish Country.
  • Will McMahan has 4 great grand in swim class.
  • Ashley Bolden was happy to be appointed to a committee with the Everett Fan Zone.
 
A cat video was then shown to the club.
 
RAFFLE
  • Krissy Davis won a water bottle and truffles.
  • Betsy Baker-Bold won a butterfly house and a game.
  • Mark Valentine won some champagne and a candle.
 
PROGRAM: Carl Gibson Center         
Ryan Willis introduced today’s speaker, Gul Subaykan of the Carl Gibson Center.
 
President Kelli has chosen The Carl Gibson Center as this year’s charity. The center served 5,886 seniors in 2024. They serve people over 50, veterans, and the disabled. Programs include exercise classes, bingo & entertainment, and classes & clubs. Lunch is served Monday through Thursday at 11:30.
 
The center supports:
  • Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Al Anon
  • 1 to 1 Counseling
  • Alzheimer’s Association
  • Bone Health
  • Brain Injury Support
The center partners with:
  • Snohomish County Senior Housing
  • Everett Public Library
Students from the Everett School District receive vocational experience volunteering at the Carl Gibson Center. The Welcome Center has welcomed 4215 refugees since 2023, assisting in resettlement and stabilization.
 
Upcoming events include:
  • Free eye exams and glasses September 10 & 11.
  • Mammogram Van on September 24th.
New free workshops include:
  • Kidney Health
  • Death with Dignity
  • Hospice 101
  • Dementia 101
  • Fall Prevention
Volunteers are needed for:
  • Leading groups
  • Teaching a class
  • Front desk assistance
  • Greet and serve members
  • Preparing and serving meals
  • Grounds and facility maintenance

Gul then entertained questions from the club members.
 
CLOSING
President Kelli thanked club members & guest Henry Janicki. She also thanked Mark Valentine & Neil Angst for setting up and tearing down the club equipment. She thanked Clay Browse for reporting today.
