President Kelli Thode rang the bell at 12:02pm, calling to order meeting #5644 of the Rotary Cub of Everett, and meeting #44 of her presidency. 

 

PP Mark Valentine then sang “Something Good’s Coming” by Tom Petty.

 

Henry Janicki then gave us the thought of the day, discussing the importance of reading.

 

PDG David Lutoff was visting us from the Mount Vernon Rotary Club. PP Ed Petersen introduced Sara Smith, Executive Director of the Everett Housing Authority. Janice Ellis introduced prospective member, Neha. PP Neil Angst introduced Tammy Coburn and Kristen Johnson. Ashley Bolden introduced Tasha with KRB Construction.

 

Kari Quaas reminded the club of scholarship awards night. May 13^th, 6pm at the Everett Civic Auditorium. The club will award a total of $387500 to 66 local students.

 

Krissy Davis reminded the club of the student shopping spree, June 2^nd & 4^th, 6pm at the Mill Creek Fred Meyer.

 

PE Kari Petrasek reminded club members to submit their committee request forms.

 

Jim Schrader announced the Rotary Park cleanup, Saturday, June 13^th, 9am-Noon. A barbecue or a taco truck will be there. All are welcome.

 

Janice Ellis announced the youth exchange farewell at her home on Saturday, June 13^th.

 

President Kelli announced the club assembly at our May 26^th meeting.

 

President Kelli reminded club members of the coffee hour, tomorrow, May 13^th, 9am at Butter Notes Cafe in Everett.

 

Krissy Davis was $108 happy. $80 in memory of her mom and $28 for her wedding anniversary.

 

PP Michael Kvistad was $20 happy for the kindness of fellow Rotarians.

 

Betsy Baker Bold completed a 10K run last Saturday.

 

Visiting Rotarian David Lutoff was sympathetic to the club’s recent losses.

 

PP Will McMahan said the Red Cross had recently called him to Guam to help with typhoon relief.

 

Lynsey Gagnon was happy for the generosity of our club.

 

Ashley Bolden ran today’s raffle. She stated that we need more prizes and asked club members to donate some. Raffle winners were:

PP John Olson introduced Snohomish County Counsel members Nate Nehring and Megan Dunn. Nate began the program with a slide show presentation. The counsel serves 870000 Snohomish County residents. The county’s largest employers are Boeing and Microsoft.

 

The counsel oversees elections, the health department, law enforcement, judicial services, and the prosecutor’s office. The county organizational shows the legislative, executive and judicial branches of county government. There are 5 counsel districts. The county has a biannual budget of $3 Billion. Public safety is a priority.

 

The council members shared some 2025 crime statistics:

The counsel continues to work on policing nuisance properties. There are currently 1140 homeless individuals in Snohomish County, down 2% from previous years.

 

Economic development efforts include a regional apprenticeship program offering new training and competencies. The Paine Field Airport master plan anticipates 4 new terminal gates in the coming years. 2026 events include FIFA World Cup, and America 250 celebration. 2026 priorities include public safety, affordability, quality of life, the county budget, housing, the climate, and workforce development.

 

The council members then entertained questions from the club membership.

President Kelli presented counsel member Nate with a certificate of donation to the Carl Gibson Center. She then thanked our guests and visiting Rotarian David Lutoff.
