President Michael Kvistad started the 31^st meeting of the year and the 5,581^st meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mark Valentine, PP, entertained us with Music of the Day. He sang “Don’t Get Fooled Again”. The Who released Won’t Get Fooled Again in 1971.

 

Ashley Bolden quoted Winston Churchill for the Thought of the Day. The quote was about success and failure.

 

Ed Petersen, PP, gave sad news as Barbara Yates, passed away last week. Barb and Roy were active with the feeding program, and school board. Barb was truly a special person. Our hearts are with Roy and his family during this time. Details of the memorial service are coming.

 

Susie from the Providence General Children’s Association was at the meeting delivering the candy that was ordered and selling candy for those who had not purchased for Valentine’s Day.

 

Kari Quaas introduced Julie Willie, City of Everett Community Development Director. Julie thanked the club members for the partnership with the Blood Drive over the last year. The members have been invited to a social hour on February 28^th, 4 pm, at the Everett Elks. Ashley Bolden introduced Kimber Montgomery. Paul Stoot introduced Everett Police Chief Dan Rabelos and Celina Robertson.

 

Ashley Bolden announced the monthly coffee meeting will be Wednesday, February 12^th, at Bargreen’s Coffee at 9 am. Everyone is welcome to have coffee and great conversations. The second Wednesday of the month is the Coffee Meetup at a local restaurant. Mark your calendar to join and have a cup of coffee.

 

President Michael thanked the Everett Rotary Club as we are a donor to a WSU medical students’ scholarship.

 

Ed Petersen is happy as he is a Norwegian citizen. He received the documents a couple of weeks ago. He is a dual citizen – Norway and United State.  

 

Walt Greenwood has been working on his ancestry. His grandmother married a Burkhart from Germany. Walt may be related to the Burkhart Bakery in Germany.

 

Megan Dunn is happy as ordinances to donate surplus property was approved and nonprofits can benefit.

 

There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.

PROGRAM:

Anna Marie Laurence introduced the school advisors.

 

Tricia Schultz, Sequoia High Advisor, introduced Trevor Bradly, Student of the Month from Sequoia High, and his mom, Brittany. Trevor Bradley is a dedicated and hard-working student with a strong passion for learning and personal growth. Trevor is always ready to lend a hand. He maintains a high level of achievement while balancing extracurricular activities and commitments. He has a clear goal to pursue a career in the trades beginning with the RAP program next fall. With his academic success and a genuine desire to contribute to the workforce, Trevor will thrive in whatever trade he chooses to pursue.

 

Jen Selders, Everett High Advisor, introduced Parker Needham and his parents, Wendy and Dave Needham. Parker Needham, Everett High Student of the Month and school Spirit Coordinator, who sets the tone for going all-in for your school. When not busy cheering from the sidelines, he plays on Everett’s tennis and soccer teams. He is also very involved with ASB leadership and is in his fifth year of the AVID program that prepares students to succeed in challenging coursework. Outside school, Parker volunteers to serve dinner to our unsheltered population. In summer he is a Camp Prov volunteer, working with students in our community with special needs. 

 

Cindy Kuntz, Cascade High Advisor, introduced Josie Buirge and her parents, Josh and Katie. Josie Buirge, Cascade High Student of the Month has been a leader since her freshman year, starting as ASB Freshman President, and has continued to shine as ASB Executive Secretary, NHS Vice President, and a dedicated member of HOSA and Link Crew. She’s excelled in challenging courses like AP Statistics and Calculus and decided on her own to study BC Calculus—all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. As a peer tutor, she helps classmates both in and out of the classroom. It’s rare to balance academic excellence with such a genuine desire to help others.

 

President Michael congratulated Trevor, Parker, and Josie. He thanked Ed for the bell ringer and for everyone who came to the meeting.
