President Michael Kvistad rang the bell at 12:03pm, calling to order meeting #5569 of the Rotary Club of Everett, and meeting #19 of Michael’s presidency. He then led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

President Michael challenged the club with a question about a band from the 1980s called Arcadia. Kari Quaas knew that the band became Duran Duran. Clay Browse also knew that Duran Duran members also formed the band, Power Station.

 

Ashley Bolden brought us the Thought of the Day, reciting from a book called “Ego is the Enemy”.

 

President Michael also stated that today is the 24^th anniversary of the International Space Station.

 

Kelli Thode introduced her guest, former member Kim Buike. Kim gave the club an update on what has been happening in his world, including a stint on “The Golden Bachelorette”. Kim had $50 for the club.

 

Janice Ellis introduced her guest, Anthony Upchurch. His second visit.

 

President Michael announced that Movember is on!

 

He also stated that November is Foundation Month. He showed a video about The Rotary Foundation.

 

Kelli Thode announced a fellowship at Wicked Wine Cellars on Wednesday, November 13^th at 5:00pm. She also stated that Kindred Kitchen will visit the club in December.

 

Ed Petersen updated the club on the Dajabon project. A trip to Dajabon is planned for this month, where they will meet with community leaders and schools.

 

Ryan Willis stated that he presented a complex math problem to a Rise Up Academy student.

 

Janice Ellis announced that speakers from RYLA, YAIL & YES will be speaking to the club next week.

 

Paul Stoot had thanks for several Rotarians for helping with the Rise Up Academy gala.

 

PP Tammy Dunn had $40 for a successful sports competition on the Everett waterfront, benefiting Dawson Place.

 

Janice Ellis had $100 for her trip to Hungary and Georgia.

 

Kari Petrasek had $20 celebrating 18 years of marriage.

 

PP Niel Angst had $100 for what he described as the eye of the hurricane in today’s political times.

 

Kelli Thode was happy to have met many fellow Rotarians when going out for coffee with Krissy Davis.

 

PP Steve Miller won some jam.

 

PP Will McMahan won chocolate.

 

Betsy Baker Bold won wine.

 

Ryan Wills introduced today’s speaker, PP John Olson. John discussed Foundation Month. The Rotary Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace by improving health, providing quality education and improving the environment.

 

The Rotary Foundation and the Everett Rotary Youth Foundation are two different organizations. Where does the money go? Money can be allocated to:

 

The annual fund invests funds for three years. The growth in the fund supports foundation operations. Spending decisions are shared between the World Fund and District Designated Funds. Rotary Foundation donations are recognized with Paul Harris Fellowships.

 

There are several different levels of recognition:

John announced the return of the Deck of a Deal. A $50 donation to the foundation buys a playing card. At the first meeting in December there will be a drawing. The member with the winning card will win a Paul Harris Fellowship. Members can donate by check, credit/debit card or online.

 

John then entertained questions from the membership.
