Program: New Everett High School Clinic

Kelly Shepherd introduced today’s speaker, Shawn Marie Madziwa of the Everett High School Clinic. The clinic is a school-based health center. It was started 3 years ago with a grant from the State of Washington. Shawn is a nurse practitioner. The clinic occupies a converted classroom and operates 5 days a week. The clinic performs medical, dental and lab work. It looks and feels like a professional medical clinic and collaborates with students, parents and the school nurse. The clinic serves Everett High School students with primary care, dental care and behavioral health. Care is at no cost and is funded by grants.  There are a large number of students with no dental care and a high uninsured rate.

Shawn then entertained questions from club members.

CLOSING
President Kelli thanked our speaker and presented her with a certificate of donation to the Carl Gibson Center. She also thanked exchange student Hakumi, and our guests.

Meeting adjourned.
