Booming out of the speaker system was Supertramp’s The Logical Song.

 

There were 20 in-house Rotarians, 8 ZOOMERS, and 3 ½ guests (Is that logical?) in attendance.

 

I was at the meeting site early and two of the presenters for today’s meeting also got there early.  I was talking to them and helping them get acclimated to the room, where they could sit, how to get their lunch, etc.  One of the presenters, Meg, told me that Kari Petrasek set up the program with her and when Meg heard Kari’s last name, she told Kari that she had grown up in a small town in Oregon called Malin (population 731+/-) and that Kari’s last name sounded familiar to her.  I emailed Kari and sure enough Kari’s father is from that area and her aunt was a teacher in that community.  It turns out that Malin was settled by a group of Czechoslovakians. In 1909 who homesteaded the land and named their town after a city in their homeland. “It’s a small world”.

 

President Michael Kvistad let us in the Pledge of Allegiance and into of our 44^th meeting of the year and our 5,594^th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett.

 

Ashley Bolden’s Thought of the Day was a reflection on our club’s Vision.  “The Rotary Club of Everett is the pre-eminent professional service club, known for its core values, support of youth education, and for successfully identifying and addressing community and international issues.”       

                                                                                                                                                                                                              

President Michael introduced Harold McClure currently of the Rotary Club of Arlington and previously with the Rotary Club of Everett-Port Garder.  He is the husband of Meg McClure one of today’s speakers.

 

No introduction was needed for our next guest as he “Popped up” from seemingly nowhere (Not logical) when Past President Mark Valentine started playing and singing the James Taylor hit song Sweet Baby James.   It turns out that Sean, Shawn, Shaun (pick a spelling) moved here from Texas, he liked Marks cowboy coat, and he really likes it here especially now that he has gotten over the culture shock. He popped out as quickly as he came in and wasn’t seen again, hence the ½ guest indicated above.

 

President Elect Kelli Thode and Barb George reiterated the need for volunteers this coming Saturday to help at the Van Valey House and at the Museum on April 17^th. There will be opportunities to help spruce up the Everett Museum of History at its two locations, The Van Valey House at 2130 Colby Ave. and the main museum building at 2939 Colby Ave. Our club will be joined by Everett-Port Garder, South Everett-Mukilteo and possibly others. Come help in planting, spreading beauty bark, cleaning, dusting, moving artifacts, etc.  The work hours will be between 9:00 am and noon. Please help support Barb in getting the museum’s properties to look fresh and beautiful.

 

President Michael reminded us of the Rotary Scholarship evening on May 20^th at the

Civic Auditorium.  Please be there at 6:00 pm.

 

Brian Hollingshead would like to see all of us at a social hour on May 22^nd at the Marriot on Colby from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm.

 

Kari Quaas announced Bike Everett which has two Celebrations planned. The first is celebrating your morning bike commute with a gathering on May 14^th between 6:00 and 8:00 am at Everett Station and the second is on May 16^th between 3:00 and 6:00 pm.

Another announcement was Clean Everett Day on May 17^th by joining your neighbors to clean up parks, sidewalks, and other public areas and then dispose of the trash at a FREE community dumpster site. Don’t forget that Sorticulture comes to downtown Everett on June 6^th and runs through the 8^th.

 

Ralph Quaas mentioned that the CEO of Interfaith Family Shelter will be a new member of Rotary, her name is Lynsey Gagnon.

 

President Michael told us the sad news that Bob Beil passed away on April 26^th. A service to celebrate his life is scheduled for June 14^th at the Hilton Garden Hotel. More details to follow.

 

President Michael was happy that his eldest daughter turned 14 years old today.

 

Barb was also happy that today is her son’s birthday, and he turned 56.

 

Kelli was happy about her son’s wedding two weeks ago in Billings but wasn’t as thrilled about having come down with COVID (luckily it was after the big event had taken place).

 

Ashley was happy to celebrate her 6^th Mother’s Day.

 

Winner number 1 – Jerry Tucker won a Mariner’s Baseball cap and a surprise bag of more stuff.

 

Winner number 2 - Past President Greg Tisdale won a shirt and a mug from the Schack Art Center, which he donated back to Rotary.

.

Winner number 3 - Kelli Thode won a bottle of wine and a book about the Everett Historical Museum.

 

Ryan Willis introduced our program today which is about HEROHouse - Clubhouse.  Presenters for the program were Meg McClure, Julia Smith, and Mary H.

 

HEROHouses mission is to empower those living with mental illness to accomplish their goals and live fulfilling lives.

 

1 in 4 families are affected by a loved one dealing with mental illness.

 

There are over 370 Clubhouses throughout the world, and they all strive to help their members (not clients) gain access to opportunities to rejoin the worlds of friendship,

family, employment, education, and to the services and support they may individually need to continue their recovery from their mental illness.

 

The Clubhouse is set up as outlined below:

From what we heard the Clubhouse appears to provide logical steps towards their members’ journey to mental health recovery.
