President Michael Kvistad started his first meeting at 12:03 pm by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance This was meeting #2 of President Michael’s year and the 5,552^nd meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett.

 

Mark Valentine, PP, led us in the music of the day with the song “Fly Away”.

 

No visiting Rotarians or guests.

 

Rotary Happy Hour is July 18^th at Courtyard by Marriott Everett, 5 pm – 6:30 pm.

 

We played “Guess Who” – name the Everett Rotarian. President Michael stated various clues for us to guess. The “Guess Who” Rotarian was Betsy Baker-Bold and Judi Edwards guessed right.

 

Rotary is Magic is the Theme for the 2024-2025 Year. A Rotary in Action video was played.

 

Kari Quaas was happy as the 4^th of July Fireworks and Celebration was a success.

 

Krissy Davis is happy to be back.

Kari Petrasek introduced Sherry Jennings, Marketing Director. Sherry gave a history of the building. In the 1920’s the building was owned by the Knights of Columbus. From 1930 – 1992, it was the Masonic Temple. The building became known as Club Broadway from 1922-2022. Club Broadway officially closed in 2010.

 

In May 2022, APEX was born. The building is  the perfect place to display one of the largest graffiti collection. APEX is an acronym for aerosol.

 

Sherry talked about the 16 Eleven Restaurant located on the first floor. Johnny restored the first floor and turned it into a restaurant. The restaurant offers Happy Hour and special menus.

 

Sherry talked about the other rooms located throughout the building. The Green Room is on the second floor and is great for parties. The Library is a small meeting space which is great for board meetings or staff meetings. The El Sid, Cocktail Lounge is still being renovated. It will have a Pop Culture Theme.

 

The Kings Hall is on the third floor and is the event space. A variety of events can be held in the event space such as concerts, kickboxing, cornhole, weddings, etc. The Gatsby Room was renovated with wood floors and is another event space. The original chandelier remains in the room.

 

Johnny and his staff are reusing the old furniture to continue the history of the building. APEX is a place to preserve the graffiti artwork and to tell the story.

 

In addition, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, American Graffiti Urban Artwork (AMGRAF), provides programs for kids to be involved with art.
