PROGRAM: City of Everett Long Range Planning
Kari Quaas introduced Alice Ann Wetzel, Long Range Planning Manager. Alice Ann was hired about three years ago and is from New Zealand.
Alice Ann and her team have been working on the Everett 20244 Comprehensive Plan. The new plan includes a Land Acknowledgement. It is the first time recognizing the land we inhabit.

The city is required to update the comprehensive plan every 10 years with a look at 20 years. The long-range planning accounts for new state laws, county and regional policies, and community concerns to plan for growing and diverse community.

Plan elements include:
Urban Form – This is a look at commercial, residential and industrial development.

Design & Development – this looks at connected, walkable communities, development and enhancements of public spaces and sustainable development.

Housing – This looks at the sizes and price points of the homes, affordability, and meets the needs and income of the community.

Economic Development – This looks at retention, attraction and expansion of businesses, and promotes the local economy. This section looks at the culture, historic preservation and tourism.

Transportation – This integrates transportation policies and land use policies, integration of transit policies, and amend policies for street design.

Parks, Recreation & Outdoor Spaces – The PRO Plan is being updated next year. This provides parks & trails along with event programming, art and culture.

Marine Port – The port is a huge economic engine. The city works with the Port of Everett.
