ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
 
MEETING:
President Michael Kvistad opened the meeting at 12:03 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance and at the conclusion our 17th meeting of the year began and the 5,567th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett was underway.
 
THOUGHT OF THE DAY: 
President Michael provided the Thought of the Day with a quote about Education. Education is the passport of the future.
 
INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Russ Hermes introduced Gargi Agrawal. Bev Harrington, former District 5050 Governor, Burlington Rotary Club, was in attendance to introduce the guest speaker.
 
PUBLIC RELATION:
Walt Greenwood, Public Relations Chair, presented the PR Committee’s goals for 2024-2025. The PR Committee goals are Membership Growth, Membership Retention, Engage Members to Promote Rotary and Expand PR Opportunities. He reviewed the public relation initiatives for each of the goals.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Rotary After Hours is October 24th 5 pm – 6:30 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Everett.
 
President Michael announced that the Rotary Club of Everett received $800,000 from Ed Rubatino. $600,000 is for scholarships. $200,000 is for the non-restricted funds.
 
Rotary Members - People in Action - President Michael played a video on “What is Rotary?”.
 
Movember begins November 1st. Walt Greenwood will take a photo of everyone is participating at the October 29th meeting.
 
HAPPY DOLLARS AND BIRTHDAY BUCKS: 
Kari Quaas had a wonderful time in Toronto this last weekend.
 
Russ Hermes is a proud grandfather to his grandson. His mother’s twin sister recently passed away.
 
Kari Petrasek had a great time traveling to various destinations.
 
Betsy Baker-Bold is happy to be back after being sick.
 
Tammy Dunn announced the 2024 National Beard & Moustache Championship is November 1-2 at the Historic Everett Theatre.
 
RAFFLE:
Winner number 1 – Gargi Agrawal selected the tshirt and candy.
 
Winner number 2 – Russ Hermes selected the wine and chocolate espresso
 
Winner number 3 – Andy Hall, PP, received a book.
 
PROGRAM 1:  YES Student
Ryan Willis introduced Bev Harrington, former District 5050 Governor & a Rotarian with the Burlington Rotary Club. Bev thanked the Rotary Club of Everett for sponsoring a student for the YES Program. She stated that there will not be a team for this year.
 
Bev Harrington introduced Will Kilmer, Everett High School Student. Will was one of the YES students that traveled to Guatemala with other students.
 
Will thanked the club for sponsoring him. He spoke about the various things the group di on the trip to Guatemala. He showed photos of the region, kids that were in the village and their sleeping area. He enjoyed volunteering and found his passion in what he would like to do. He became friends with students from Marysville Pilchuck High School and Jackson High School.
