President Neil Angst started our meeting #40^th of the year and the 5,543^rd meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

President Neil’s thought of the day was naming the “Day of” for the Day. International Jazz Day. Mr. Potato Head Day, National Bubble Tea Day, National Tie Day, etc. Larry O’Donnell stated it was “Payday” for retired State Employees Day.

 

No visiting Rotarians or guests.

 

District 5050 Conference is May 4^th in Mount Vernon.

 

Anna Marie Laurence stated that the Scholarship presentation is May 9^th at the Everett Civic Auditorium. She is asking the Rotarians to arrive by 6:00 pm. The ceremony begins at 6:30 pm sharp.

 

Everett Food Bank Sorting Outreach is Thursday, May 16^th from 2 pm – 4 pm

 

Past President’s Dinner is May 22^nd at 6 pm at Vintage Café. The cost is $50. Prepayment is greatly appreciated.

 

Rotary After Hours is Thursday, May 16^th, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Everett.

 

President Elect Michael Kvistad gave a report on the recent tour of the Hotel Indigo Everett. The Saratoga meeting room seats about 50 people. The lounge area is another option to hold the meeting. There is no charge for the meeting space. The meal service would be three lunch options and the Rotarians would pay on their own. There is plenty of parking available.

 

Mark Valentine was happy and told us about his trip to Europe and someone taking his backpack. He was able to get his medications replaced without any issue.

 

Janice Ellis was very, very very happy. She had a great time with the Scholarship interviews, thanked Anna Marie Laurence and Russ Kimball, and thanked Kari Quaas, Ashley Bolden, and Tammy Dunn for their assistance in finding speakers for the Next Generation Interviews. She was happy on a few other items, too.

 

Kari Petrasek was happy as she just got back from Dajabon. This was the most successful trip as the grant was approved and the final distribution of books for the literacy project.

 

Barb George was happy for her recent birthday celebration with her family.

 

Tammy Dunn was happy as the Snohomish County Sports Commission was a finalist for the Sports Commission of the Year – 500,000 and over Population and Nathan Caferro, sports events coordinator was named Rising Star of the Year.

 

Winner number 1 – Steve Juntwait picked the free lunch.

 

Winner number 2 – Mark Valentine picked the bottle of red wine.

 

Winner number 3 – Larry O’Donnel received a bottle of white wine.

 

Kari Petrasek introduced Mike Pellicciotti, State Treasurer, and Anna Boris, Chief of Staff.  Mike enjoys speaking at Rotary Clubs as it is a great way to connect with people. He has presented to 40 Rotary Clubs around the State of Washington.

 

The Treasury department works on three items. (1) Handle investments for the state. (2) Debt management. There are three budgets the Treasurer oversees. The three budgets are Operating, Transportation, and Capital. The Transportation and Capital budgets are funded through bonds. The department works to get the best bond rates to manage the debt. (3) Service as State Banker.

 

Mike serves on several boards / commissions such as pension board, GET Program, Small Business and Economic Development.  One of the items he has worked on during a past Short Legislative Session was to modernize the bills/laws. By doing this, it has help make the government work better.

 

Additionally, the treasurer’s role is to provide financial guard rails by offering recommendations to the legislature.

 

The Treasurer department has a staff of 70 people.
