Foundation Month Winners – PP Maddy Metzger-Utt reported that we are very close to reaching our $25,000.00 goal.  She also, with Claire Lu’s assistance, picked the Paul Harris winners: Steve Miller and Hugh Minor

 

Membership Committee –PP Lyle Ryan once again enlisted our help securing new members that fit an obscure list of categories that fit our club – in the 1920’s

 

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner – Judi reported that the event is held on December 8 in three locations: Arlington, Marysville and Everett.  She encouraged us to sign up.  Judi also said there are still slots available for first-shift volunteers on Christmas day at the Everett Gospel Mission.

 

Ice Cream Social – Marybeth Dingledy reminded us that tomorrow, November 29^th, is the Ice Cream Social.  It is held at the Everett CRC between 6 – 7 PM.  These Next Gen AVID folks want to meet Rotarians, so please stop by.

 

Happy Dollars/Birthday Bucks/Raffle:

 

PP Maddy Metzger Utt made an important announcement; PP Larry O’Donnell shared a story about a friend who was impressed with Rotary, shared the arrival of his fourth Great Grandchild, and shared his 58^th wedding anniversary (Bell Ringer!!!); Amy Norman shared her son’s injury and made a call to all who know about that particular injury; Mary Toews announced the upcoming fundraiser for Mary’s Place; Rich Anderson opined a correction to the statement made by Henry Newton’s Bob Rondeau doll; Dale Newman celebrated significant dates and birthdays (Bell Ringer!!!); PP Roy Yates shared; and PP Bob Bavasi shared that he came in 3^rd place in a sailboat race.

 

Scott Casselman, Rich Toyer, and PP Tom Koenig were the lucky raffle winners.

 

Janice Ellis then introduced the Program:  “Rotary Exchange Student Program” presented by

Claire Lu.

Claire is our inbound Exchange Student from Taipei, Taiwan.  She is 17, and likes table tennis,

photography, Pig’s Blood Cakes and Stinky Tofu.  Taiwan’s population is about 23 Million

people, and Taiwan is 5 times smaller in size than Washington State.  Taiwan industry

includes electronics and bicycle manufacturing.  Popular events include the Chinese New

Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Moon Festival.

 

Her mother is a Bank Asst. Manager, and her father is an Attorney.  Her father has been in the

Hua yang Rotary Club in Taiwan for 18 years.

 

Claire presented a Rotary flag from her homeland to President McMahan, who reciprocated by

presenting our flag to Claire.

 

During the Question and Answer period, she was asked what she was surprised by when she

came to America.  Her reply: “People here are not really fat.”

 

Don Senter’s Famous and Flammable Fruitcake then went up for auction.  Marc Baker the

courageous, was the winning bidder.

 

President McMahan then thanked contributors, Visitors and Guests.  He announced the next

Program:“Recovery Café” presented by Wendy Grove introduced by Russ Kimball.
