Rotary Log Oct 10 2017

Meeting of October 10, 2017 #14 (5222):

President, Will McMahan, Presiding, called the meeting to order at 12:07 PM.  Our greeters at the door were PP Steve Juntwait and PP Tom Koenig.

President McMahan then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Neil Angst presented the Thought of the Day – “if you have inner strength,do not use caffeine or Red Bull to stay awake, eat good food every day, …. Then you are probably the Family dog.”

Jerry Tucker then introduced Visiting Rotarians, of which there were none today.  Jerry went on to introduce Guests.  No Guests were here either.

Announcements were then made:

  1. Membership Committee – Lyle Ryan thanked all, including the Membership Committee members, as membership numbers climb.  He reminded us that October 24th is the 4th Tuesday of the month, meaning we can bring a guest for free.

  2. Fireside Update – Fontelle Jones reported that 13 people attended the last Fireside at Schack Art Center.  The next Fireside is likely to be on January 18th at the Recovery Café.

  3. Happy Hour Social – Sean George reminded us that the next Happy Hour Social will be on October 19th at the Vintage Café

  4. Fellowship Costume Contest – Joe Gaffney said that Halloween lands on a Tuesday, meaning we can all wear our favorite Halloween costumes to Rotary!   Prizes are avbailable.

  5. Card for Mark Nesse – Larry O”Donnell reported on Mark Nesse’s condition.   At last report, Mark was showing some positive signs for recovery.

    Happy Dollars/Birthday Bucks/Raffle:

Will McMahan reminisced about his first Rotary meeting; Judi talked about events of last week; Janice Ellis reported that ES Claire is turning 17 next week, and Janice requested donations for a cake and classes for Claire; Sean George announced Mari’s Place is holding a Fall Concert on November 2, from 4:30 PM to 7 PM; Steve Miller said his daughter, who retired from competitive skiing at a young age is back at it again – and achieving success; Jeff Cornish tried to convince us that he is a jinx on USC football, as USC loses when he attends the games; Tara Eckstrom is having a birthday; Marc Baker is downsizing and has Christmas (and likely other) items to share; Kaye Phinney is celebrating a birthday and a recent vacation in Eastern Washington; Mary Toews appreciates the thanks and warm thoughts for her family in Mexico City; and Joe Gaffney is thankful that his wife, friends, and he are survivors of the recent Las Vegas tragedy.

Raffle prize winners were Amy Norman, Sonya Kraski, and Russ Hermes

Todd Morrow then introduced the Program:  Club Assembly.

Local Impact Committee Chair Russ Kimball introduced its members, and stated the
Committee’s present activities: monthly food drives, Christmas House, Clothes for Kids, and
    Recovery Café.

Rotaract’s Erik Samuelson was not present so Will McMaham pinch hit for Erik.  Will said we
are the sponsoring Rotary Club for Rotaract. Rotaract focuses on candidates that are 18 to 30
    years old.

candidates.  There are two scholarships available.
