President Michael Kvistad started the 27^th meeting of the year and the 5,577^th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Walt Greenwood entertained us with a lovely rendition of “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” made famous by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos in 1964.

 

Ashley Bolden spoke of Gratitude. She recommends sending a text to someone you know telling them how much you appreciate them.

 

Tara Ekstrom introduced her husband Grant to the members.

 

Brian Hollingshead reminded the members about this month’s Rotary Happy Hour. The event is Thursday, January 23^rd at the Obsidian Brew Hall starting at 5:00. The address is: 1420 Hewett. Bring a friend.

 

Kelli Thode reminded us about the Recovery Cafe’ coffee hour. The event is Friday, January 31 at Noon.

 

Kelli also encourages all members to attend the District 5050 Conference being held May 2-4 and the Tulalip Resort & Casino. She also recommends viewing the Club runner website calendar to keep up to date on all things Rotary.

 

Jim Staniford is selling tickets for the annual Dawson Place Fundraiser held at the Silvertips game February 2. Tickets are reported to be $10 each. Jim provides great raffle prizes, and the event is always great time.

 

Ed Peterson and the WCS committee is looking for donations to finish off their $20,000 fundraising effort to purchase books for the 11 schools in the Dominican Republic.

 

Paul Stoot is $100 happy a chest and back pain he experienced before Christmas while golfing in Puerto Vallarta was cleared by a normal EKG in Mexico. He then spent time with his Mother in Houston. He returned home to find he has been having small heart attacks for the past month. After a surgery January 5^th , the “Widow Maker” occlusion in his heart blood vessel was cleared at Providence Hospital.

 

Neil Angst is $80 happy Paul Stoot was fine after heart surgery and Paul was awarded “Man of the Year” for the City of Lynnwood. He was $20 happy for his Penn State Nittany Lions football team who made it to the College Football playoffs. Notre Dame ended their season in a well-played game.

 

Jerry Tucker aka Oregon Duck was $5 happy with his undefeated and #1 ranked Oregon Duck football team. Unfortunately, one brutal loss to Ohio State ended the Ducks season early.

 

President and Head Basketball Coach Michael reported on his daughter’s basketball team being handed a defeat of 30+ points to Zero. He was proud of the team’s resilience at the next practice and their positive attitudes going forward. (There may be a petition by the parents for Michael’s ouster)

 

Larry O’Donnell made the club aware of a past Everett Rotary member, Dr. Howard Johnson, passed away recently.

 

Kelli Thode Reported about the first Coffee hour of the year held at The Vintage Café. The Coffee hour will be held the first Wednesday of the month at 9:00.

 

There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.

 

Ryan Willis introduced our speaker Lori Healy, Executive Director of Bethany Home Health, LLC. Bethany Home Health focuses on providing high quality service and individualized patient care. Their highly skilled staff work with patients and their families to overcome health issues due to living with a chronic condition, recovering from illness or simply in need of assistance. Bethany provides Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitation services from Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Social Worker Services. They are currently working to add Hospice Care in the near future. There were several questions from the membership with lively discussion.

 

President Michael thanked Lori for the presentation and adjourned the meeting.
