President Michael Kvistad rang the bell at 12:00pm, calling to order meeting #5564 of the Rotary Club of Everett, and meeting #14 of his presidency. He then led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Kevin Daniels brought us the Thought of the Day, celebrating President Jimmy Carter’s 100^th birthday. President Carter established the US Department of Education. Kevin then shared some thoughts on education.

 

Barbara George introduced her guest, Joan Packard, with the Everett Museum of History.

 

President Michael played some videos of Deep Purple and Whitesnake and asked who the lead singer was. David Coverdale was the correct answer. Answered by yours truly!

 

President Michael then showed an interesting video of a “Sports Kid”.

 

Kelli Thode announced that the recent blood drive collected 20 units, bringing the total to over 300 units. It has become a great service project for Rotary.

 

Kari Quaas stated that the Monte Cristo awards are back.

 

Ryan Willis announced the Love in the Soup event on October 12^th, 5:30pm at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Everett.

 

Anna Marie Laurence was $20 happy about the 4oth anniversary of the USS Henry M Jackson, with thanks to Glenn Bachman, Barbara Geroge, Joan Packard, and Jim Staniford.   

 

Janice Ellis had $20 for traveling to Hungary for the Rotary Friendship Exchange.

 

Mark Valentine ran today’s raffle.

The winner of the big drawing for a Paul Harris Fellowship upgrade was Krissy Davis.

 

Ryan Willis introduced Rotary District 5050 Assistant Governor, Mary Schoenfeld. Mary dazzled the club with her amazing The Magic of Rotary card trick.  She then introduced District 5050 Governor, Dave Duskin. Governor Dave is a member of the Arlington Rotary Club and has been active at the district level. He is a huge WSU Cougar fan.

 

Governor Dave stated that there are 31 Rotary clubs in the US and 31 clubs in Canada, making district 5050 live up to its name. District membership has dropped from 3500 to 2000 since the COVID epidemic.

 

The Rotary Club of Everett is the oldest club in the district, producing district governors Tom Rainville & Lyle Ryan. The Rotary Club of Everett is responsible, either directly or indirectly, for every other Rotary club in Snohomish County. Governor Dave would like to see clubs in Snohomish and Monroe. He emphasized that new members should get engaged with Rotary right away.

 

Governor Dave stated that Rotary must also adapt to the changing times. He mentioned previous events that had led to members leaving Rotary: A no smoking policy, the admission of women into Rotary, and rather strict classification rules.

 

The Polio Plus project remains very close to achieving its goal of eradicating Polio from earth. There remain 18 cases of Polio in Pakistan, and 18 cases in Afghanistan.

 

Governor Dave wrapped up by showing a video about the district conference, May 2-4, 2025, at the Tulalip Resort.

 

He then presented People of Action Awards to Ashley Bolden & Kelli Thode.

 

He also helped in inducting a new member, Cassidy Spencer.

 

President Michael thanked Governor Dave with a donation to Millenia Ministries.
