Rotary Club of Everett
  
MEETING:
President Michael opened the 33th meeting of the year and the 5,583rd meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance. 
 
THOUGHT OF THE DAY: 
President Michael changed the Thought of the Day by showing a video about Nigeria working to eradicate polio.
 
INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Megan Dunn introduced Paul Rhyne, Snohomish County Council Legislative staff member and Everett City Council member.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Past President Larry O’Donnell read a “in memoriam” of Chuck Macaulay. He spoke about Chuck’s involvement with Everett. Fellow Rotarians had a moment of silence for Chuck Macaulay.
 
Anna Marie Laurence announced that the Scholarship Committee is looking for student interview volunteers. The Scholarship interview day is April 26th. Volunteers should be there at 8:15 am. Interviews are from 9 am to 5 pm. Lunch will be provided. She passed around a form to sign up.
 
Kari Quaas reminded us that the blood drive at the Everett Elks is Friday, February 2th. Please attend the special celebration at 4 pm at Social Hour.
 
Kelli Thode mentioned she went to the PELS Conference. There were over 700 people at the conference. The Theme for next year is Unite For Good.
 
The Grants Seminar is March 8th and 29th. The District Conference is May 3-4 at the Tulalip Resort Casino. The club will pay for club registration for first time Club Rotarians. If you have not attended before, please let Kelli and/or Sandy know. The conference registration is $350.
 
HAPPY DOLLARS AND BIRTHDAY BUCKS: 
John Olson was happy as Saturday, March 1st, is the Charter Day of Everett Rotary Club. Deborah Wright’s daughter Virginia Mackenzie is on the front page of Rotary Magazine.
 
Jim Staniford was a bell ringer happy. The Dawson Place fundraiser was a great event. He spent time in Las Vegas and Palm Springs. He saw Dick Schlosser in Palm Springs.
 
RAFFLE:
Winner number 1 – Mark Johnson selected chocolates and a Seattle book
 
Winner number 2 – Larry O’Donnell chose the wine and chocolates
 
Winner number 3 – Brian Hollingshead picked the chocolates and grilling utensils
 
PROGRAM: Everett School District – State of the School
Ryan Willis introduced Ian Saltzman, Superintendent of Everett School District. Ian introduced other team members who would be presenting the State of the School.
 
Peter Scott presented the Priority Student Outcomes which are reading by 3rd grade, increase math and science to name a few of the outcomes.
 
Inspire. Achieve. Thrive. The Everett School District has 20,437 students enrolled. The student diversity includes 41.3% White, 21.3% Hispanic 20.9% Asian. The school district serves all students. 19.1% are multilingual learners. 16,000 bus riders. 44.5% receive free or reduced priced meals.
 
95.2% graduation rate – 2024 four year.
 
Peter Misner talked about the Academic Performance. He shows us tables and graphs which compare Everett School District to Washington State schools. Also showed us graphs comparing with other local school districts.
 
Cathy Woods talked about the reading performances and math performances. She reviewed the 2022 Captial Levy Projects which include replacement of Jackson Elementary School and Madison Elementary School. These two schools will open in 2027 and 2028 respectively. The Everett High School Auditorium and Cascade High School Science Building are included in these capital projects.
 
Shelley Boten discussed the Innovative Community Partnerships which include Early Learning Community Partners and Career Connected Learning.
