We were welcomed to the meeting of Rotary Club of Everett on March 8, 2016 by greeter Pat Sievers.
Meeting #33 (#5142 for the club) was brought to order by President Deborah Wright. After the Pledge of Allegiance,
the Thought of the Day was provided by Janice Ellis with thoughts about National Women’s Day and a quote by Timothy Leary.
Opening Song by Michael Hawks even included physical activity! (thanks for the warm up Michael!)

Tom Lane and Betsy Baker-Bold from Everett getting ‘outed’ for acting like visiting Rotarians and finally dropping in for a meeting.
Fundraiser update by Will McMahan: Will reported (with the help of Judi) that we were currently at $58,910 ($1090 away from goal of $60k). Then Amy Norman spoke up and said she would chip in another $100 to get us closer. Then a chorus provided by Marybeth Dingledy, Parker Crompton, Ed Peterson, Tom Lane, Scott Casselman, Andy Skotdal, Will McMahan, Greg Tisdel, Bob Beil, Gail Larson, Larry O’Donnell and Jim Schrader chimed in and upped their donations and we made our goal! What a great group of Rotarians! WOO HOO! $60,000 raised!

“Pacific Rim Gymnastics” introduced by Tammy Dunn,
presented by Laura Lee: 2012 also hosted Pacific Rim Gymnastics and today marks 1 month prior to the arrival of Pacific Rim Gymnastics 2016 back in Everett. Laura is back to the Rotary Club of Everett again as President of Production Sports who brings Skate America and Pacific Rim Gymnastics to our area.
Pacific Rim Gymnastics provides a large turnout of very uplifting high energy visitors, spectators and athletes. It is an NBC televised sport special so Everett will be highlighted on a national and international level. 300 Athletes from different countries will be competing, with Japan, China Russia and US as the favorites to watch. The US women are 4x world champions! The three-time world champion Simone Biles is guaranteed to compete and the rest of the team will be announced 2 weeks prior. The US men’s team will be present as well. Laura showed a video of Glasgow championships, highlighting the events and the athletes. Events include the typical artistic gymnastics (at Comcast Arena), as well as rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline will be held at EvCC Fitness Center. Trampoline also draws big crowds from Canada because of the aerials events in skiing (often trampoline and gymnastic athletes are recruited for skiing aerials events!). Pacific Rim Gymnasics is expected to have a $2.3M economic impact to the area, as well as bringing international media, and 20,000 spectators. Tickets are available and affordable. Did you know that gymnastics is one of the largest international sporting organizations (because of all the clubs around the world and the young starting age of the sport). President Deborah thanked Laura for coming to present to our club with a gift in her name to the Dispute Resolution Center, and then thanked visiting Rotarian Julie as well as Andy and Tom for coming to the meeting today. She repeated her gratitude for the generous Rotarians helping us meet our $60,000 fundraising goal and the contributions to Happy Bucks.
