ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT

PRE- MEETING:
There were 20 in person and 10 on ZOOM as of the start of the meeting.

President Michael Kvistad had a video playing showing a 1976 Pennsylvania High School dance with music playing in the background by The Steve Miller Band (before he became a famous water skier).

MEETING:
President Michael Kvistad started the 12th meeting of the year with the Pledge of Allegiance which led us into the 5,562nd meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Noting the anniversary of 9-11, Kevin Daniels quoted President Harry S. Truman “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Ashley Bolden brought Anthony Upchurch as a guest today and he was introduced to the club by Janice Ellis, as Ashley was busy with name tags, selling raffle tickets, etc. Anthony is in the Insurance business.

TRIVIA:
President Michael played a song (not personally) and asked those in attendance who the artist was and what the name of the song was. In an instant Clayton Browse said Fleetwood Mac (artist) and The Chain (song).

President Michael showed another video of a 1977 Ukiah High School dance that went along with the Pre-Meeting theme. (you don’t see that cities name very often).

President Michael showed a feel-good video from SW England where Rotarians worked alongside other like-minded groups and individuals to clean up their beaches.

Brian Hollingshead announced the Rotary After Hours will be held on Thursday September 26th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the Courtyard by Marriot on Colby.

Anna Marie Laurence had a handful of out thank you cards she had received from some of last spring’s scholarship winners. She passed one out to 7 different Rotarians who in turn read their letter outload.  It was obvious that the students were very appreciative of their scholarships.

Janice Ellis asked us to help show our exchange student a good time by taking him to fun places, cultural events, etc. He loves music and playing his guitar (One that Past President Mark Valentine has provided to him for the year).

HAPPY DOLLARS AND BIRTHDAY BUCKS:
Past President Neil gave $50.00 for the Rotarian from Victoria who he kindly let park in his lot and $20.00 for the Husky football loss to WSU.  (I apologize to Neil if I had this all messed up, I hear what I hear).

Past President Steve Juntwait gave $100.00 as he was inspired by the good work of the Rotarians shown in the video from SW England and he is celebrating his 47th year in our Rotary club.

Kari Quaas was excited that the monthly After Hours Get Together that Brian organizes is now the 4th Thursday of the month which means she can now more easily attend.

Janice Ellis was happy that the District 5050 exchange students were able to have a 3-day retreat at Camp Killoqua, where they bonded and had fun.

President Michael gave $20.00 for his daughter’s first Volleyball game today and for being able to attend an Ethiopian New Years party last Sunday that was attended by over 80 families, at one house.  He said it was crowded, noisy and very fun.

RAFFLE:
Winner number 1 - Brian Hollingshead selected the red wine and bottle opener.

Winner number 2 - Past President Larry O’Donnell selected the tee shirt and chocolate.

Winner number 3 - Anna Marie Laurence’s prize was a Rotary hat and chocolates.

PROGRAM:
Our program did not show up, so we spent the rest of the hour socializing.

NEXT PROGRAM:
Club Assembly - Kari Petrasek

MEETING ADJOURNED:
President Michael adjourned the meeting at 12:39 pm

Respectfully Submitted,
Past President Andy Hall
