Rotary Club of Everett MEETING: President Kelli Thode started the 16th meeting of the year and the 5,616th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance. THOUGHT OF THE DAY: John Olson tried to explain how he has developed such a vast knowledge of the history of the Everett Rotary Club with a video presentation of Rotary History Minute “Behind the Scenes”. He made a short video showing a picture of a storage facility at Everett Downtown Storage and then the exact storage unit, number 2057. As the storage unit door opens, the video shows several boxes of club historical information and artifacts. The video pans to the right showing our most valuable resource club historian, Larry O’Donnell, is sitting on a chair. John deadpans, “Don’t you worry Larry, we will get you out of here in no time.” Larry and John are planning a few presentations about the history of the club over the next few months. Can’t wait! MUSIC: Mark Valentine presented a brief history of the blues song “Sittin’ on Top of the World” written by Chester Burnette better known by his stage name Howlin’ Wolf. He is regarded as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. Mark then played rousing rendition of the blues song. INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS: Ashley Bolden introduced the following guests: - Jennifer Hem who will be inducted into the club October 28th.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Kelli Thode: Rotary Community Coffee Hour was a hit last Wednesday at The Milk House Coffee Company. Kelli Thode: Rotary After Hours: Thursday, October 23rd from 5:00 to 6:30 and will be hosted by Greg Lineberry at the Vintage Café. Kelli Thode: The Veterans Day Service Project at the Carl Gibson Center has changed the luncheon date to Thursday, November 6th. The facility opens at 11:00 and Rotarian Volunteers should plan to be there until 1:30. We are looking for club members to welcome, serve lunch, and clean up at this event. Please wear Rotary gear! There will be a volunteer signup on Club Runner. There will be a regular Rotary Meeting on Tuesday that week as well. Kelli Thode: Annual Rotary costume contest October 28th. Dress it up! Kari Quaas: Ralph Quass passed away Friday, October 10th at 2:05AM. There will be a celebration of life Saturday, November 8th at 1:00PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Ralph was 91 years old and was a valued and loved member of the Everett Rotary for 61 years with perfect attendance. That’s a great run. HAPPY DOLLARS/BIRTHDAY BUCKS: Ashley Bolden was at Leadership Snohomish County breakfast this morning and was happy that fellow Rotarian Liz Stenning was awarded the Debra Knutson award for women in leadership. Congratulations! Mark Valentine was $20 happy about his recent visit to Iowa City for a book binding conference. There were 10 bellringers for the passing of Ralph Quaas. Words like premier volunteer, champion of Rotary, a perfect example of Service above Self, great humor and always there and always helpful described how Ralph lived his life. He will be missed. Speaking and making donations were Krissy Davis, Kari Petrasek, Janice Ellis, Paul Stout, Besty Baker, Rose Goulet, Neil Angst, Larry O’Donnell, Liz Stenning, Will McMahan, Mary Beth Dingledy and Ashley Bolden. RAFFLE: Ashley Bolden There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee. Winner Number 1 – Brian Hollingshead selected Wine and Creamy Caramel. Winner Number 2 – Steve Juntwait selected the book “Doing Good in the World” and pumpkin candy. Winner Number 3 – Greg Tisdel selected Halloween pretzels and a Rotary hat. PROGRAM: Kari Petrasek introduced Grace Stensland and Zac Anderson from the Snohomish County Office of the Court Appointed Special Advocate program (CASA). CASA supports children in foster care with dedicated advocates who ensure their voices are heard and needs are met. The CASA Connections Center is an all-inclusive name for the space at Denney Juvenile Center including the newly established Wonder Room. The Wonder Room is a welcoming space filled with clothes, toys, books, and essentials — offering kids comfort, dignity, and joy during tough transitions. The Wonder Room was created for family time visits between parents and children involved in dependency cases. It features state-of-the-art sensory equipment designed to create a calming, trauma-informed environment where families can connect and strengthen their bonds. CASA is always looking for donations to provide snacks, diapers, coffee for parents and other items necessary to make the time spent at the facility comfortable for everyone. They are also looking for CASA volunteer advocates and for volunteers to help operate the Wonder Room. CASA will have a Holiday gift tree for Christmas gifts for the kids and have an annual book drive as well.
