Ryan Willis started the 48^th meeting of the year and the 5,648^th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Betsy Baker reflected on the loss of several of our Rotary past presidents and longtime members of our club. She reminded us of how precious life is and the legacy we leave behind. Betsy quoted Helen Keller, “What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”

 

Walt Greenwood played a Ned Miller classic country and western hit which reached number 7 on American Billboard chart in 1965, “Do What You Do, Do Well”. That is very good advice.

 

Paul Stoot introduced Danan Pop who is a real estate managing broker at Compass and will become a member of the club soon.

 

Henri Janicki introduced Kelley Denman from Integrated Media Consulting and Digital Marketing. Henry and Kelley met while walking their dogs.

 

Paul Stoot introduced Taylor Davis from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department.

 

Henry Janicki shared with the members he was the first in his family to not attend college and instead became a logger. Now he works for Osprey Logistics which is a full-service, intermodal terminal and freight broker providing logistics and supply chain management solutions to move cargo within the Seattle area and British Columbia. They can move top soil, aggregate rock and lumber. Henry is married and has a 3-year-old daughter. Great to have you as a new member!

 

Ashley Bolden announced a membership social coffee hour Wednesday at 9:00AM at Woods Coffee.

 

Krissy Davis thanked the members who participated in the AVID shopping Spree at Fred Meyer June 2^nd and 4^TH.

 

Kari Quaas reminded the members about the World Cup Waterfront Watch Party on the Everett Water Front this Thursday and Friday and next Thursday and Friday. No new volunteers are needed.

Janice Ellis is happy she, Rotary Exchange Student Hakumi Matsumoto, Parker and New Generations Exchange Student MJ returned from a road trip to Yellowstone Park over the weekend. They had a great time backpacking and exploring Yellowstone and even saw a bear while camping.

 

Janice Ellis also reported RYLA student, Ella, sent a very nice Thank You card to the club for sponsoring her. She most liked the simple act of getting out of her comfort zone.

 

Kari Quaas was happy Sorticulture was a huge success again this year.

 

Neil Angst was a bellringer happy for his 66^th birthday and his PSA numbers went from 6.82 to 0.18 since his radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

 

Steve Miller reported his mother is in the hospital after falling and fracturing her back. She is in rehabilitation at Bethany and will 100 years old in 2 months.

 

Paul Stoot was happy FIFA has invited 20 students from Rise Up Academy to attend a World Cup Soccer game. He is requesting members donate funds to help the students purchase matching shirts for the match.

 

Larry O’Donnell was a bell ringer happy to speak about the passing of Past President and Past District Governor Don Senter. Don grew up poor and had three jobs in high school just to survive. He was able to become an attorney and practiced in Everett for several decades. He was a gifted writer and speaker. In his spare time, he made many wonderful caricature drawings that were actioned off and purchased by the incoming Rotary Club President. Don gave Larry a picture he drew of an eight-year-old Larry hanging in a cherry tree celebrating the end of WWII as it was the same day as Larry’s eighth birthday.

 

Marci Volmer reminded the members that Leadership Snohomish County is accepting nominations for next year and encouraged us to nominate people who would be interested.

 

Henry Janicki has an employee whose dad just had a major stroke and another employee whose spouse passed away last night in her sleep. Henry agreed with Betsy Baker’s “Thought of the Day” that we should value the time we have and the people in our lives.

 

There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.

Stephen Colley, a retired naval officer, spoke about Randy Couture who grew up in Edmonds and attended Lynnwood High School. Randy started Extreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) which is an American mixed martial arts training organization headquartered in Las Vegas. Randy is a former 6-time UFC Champion and former co-founder of Team Quest. He also ways an actor in the hit action film series “The Expendable”. He started, Operation: Ride for Our Troops to raise money and awareness to assist our Nations Combat and Wounded Veterans and their families struggling with emergent financial burdens. The 6^th annual Motorcycle Poker Run fundraising event will be held Saturday, August 15 at the Arlington at Sound Harley Davidson shop.  Randy will be there to sign autographs.

 

Randy is also a member of the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame and a favorite MMA fighter of Ryan Willis.
