Everett Rotary Meeting – August 22, 2017
We were welcomed by Greeters Mark Duffy & Lance Balla.
President Will McMahan opened the meeting leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Greg Lineberry gave the Thought of the Day.
Michael Kvistad welcomed visiting Rotarians and Guests. There were no visiting Rotarians.

Howie Bargreen discussed Bargreen’s Coffee’s 125 years in business.

Kari Petrasek proposed by Marybeth Dingledy, Classification – Legal Services introduced by Janice Ellis.
Announcements
  • Lyle Ryan – Membership Committee.  Talked about unrepresented Classifications. 4 new members with 2 pending new members.
  • Paul Pitre talked about last night’s fellowship touring the new WSU Building.
  • Judi Edwards – Rotary Attire.  There are order forms out front for Everett Rotary polos and sweatshirts.  Next week is the last week to order.
  • Judi Edwards – Food Bank volunteering this Thursday August 24th.
  • Judi Edwards – Happy hour on September 14th at Bluewater Organic Distillery
  • Will McMahan – September 23rd couple events Bellingham Rotary celebrating their centennial and Rotary Leadership Institute.  There will be carpools going to both events.
  • Jeff Cornish – Golfun last Friday.  The 2 Everett teams had scores of 54 and 56, with the winning team coming in at 51.

Program: "DSHS/CPS Recruitment”
Eileen Simmons introduced Jean Hopper a lifelong Everett resident who has been a supervisor and social worker at DSHS for 21 years. 
Jean was here to talk about Fostering.  When removing children their goal is to work towards reunification unless parental rights are revoked.  The foundation of a social worker is the safety of the children.  Jean provided these Washington State statistics; 9,222 children out of homes and in State care; 535 days if the medium length of State care; Only 4,992 Foster homes.  Jean also talked about how anyone can help Fostering without being a Foster home.  For more information visit http://fosteringtogether.org/.
