I sat next to Past President Steve Miller and we talked a little about work and Steve was telling me that it has been more cost effective for his company to send tanker trucks to Canada to fill up with product than it is to go to the refinery in Anacortes, that includes paying his driver for an 8–9-hour day.

 

In case you were wondering today is National Middle Child Day.

There were 22 Rotarians from our club in attendance, one guest, one bunny, and our speaker as we mingled and got ready for the opening bell signifying the start of our Rotary meeting.

 

President Kelli Thode led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and into her/our 7^th meeting of the year and our 5,607^th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett.  

 

Walt Greenwood sang Song Sung Blue by Neil Diamond, who described his song’s melody being inspired by the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto #21, which has been described as a beautiful and lyrical slow movement, where piano and orchestra share the melodic material easily.  I always thought about it as a catchy, sing along type song.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

Ryan Willis introduced Lindsay Gagnon who is the Executive Director of Interfaith Family Shelter.

 

Janice Ellis introduced us to her pet Bunny, “Onyx”, who has a beautiful black coat of fur, and a backpack she/he can call home when traveling with Janice.

 

President Kelli made the following announcements:

Heather Barnhart told us that they have a quorum of blood doners for the August 29^th drawing.  The next opportunity to provide blood or to volunteer another way will be on October 24^th.

 

Janice Ellis reminded all of us about the friendship exchange our club will be hosting the week of September 22^nd and how we are all encouraged to participate and welcome our visiting Rotarians from Hungary.  She gave a special shootout to Past President Steve Miller who along with his wife Dru will be hosting a dinner for the visitors and those who sign up from our club.

 

Past President Greg Tisdal provided a snippet of information concerning a strategic planning workshop scheduled for a TBD time in September.  President Kelli sent all of us an email on August 8^th explaining the purpose for the plan and asking for all who can

participate to do so.

 

Betsy Baker-Bold gave $100.00 to let us know how appreciative she is for the kind words she has been receiving from all sorts of people who knew her father.

 

Past President Rose Goulet gave a bell ringer ($100.00) for the friendship her dad had with Marc.  They were both great Rotarians and right now they are likely having “One hell of

a makeup”.

 

Past President Steve Juntwait, a 1963 classmate of Marc’s, at Everett High, gave $100.00 joyful/sad dollars for all the years he knew Marc as a friend and Rotarian.

 

Janice Ellis also gave $100.00 in memory of Marc as he was always a joy and he had curiosity which rubbed off on all of us Rotarians to do good in the world.

 

Past President Will McMahon said you could never so no to Marc. “$100.00 bell ringer”.

 

Past President Greg Tisdal went on a motorcycle trip with Marc and he add a lot of funny details about that trip that I got caught up in listening too but forgot to write down.

I did catch that he gave $100.00.

 

President Kelli gave $100.00 to the memory of Marc and what he had done for Rotary and for all of us who knew him.

 

Henry Janicki thanked everyone for buying raffle tickets whose proceeds were to support the family of his friend who was lost in a logging accident. Henry read a poem another friend had written concerning losing a logger and his family having to deal with the tragedy.

 

Winner number 1 - Ryan Willis won a gift bag from the Schack Art Center.

 

Winner number 2 - Jerry Tucker won a bottle of white wine.

.

Winner number 3 - Past President Steve Miller won a water bottle with the Washington Huskies logo on it.

 

Vice President Ryan Willis introduced Raedle Alburn the Development + Education Director K-12 at the Schack Art Center.

 

Before she got started with her presentation, she told us that this weekend, August 16^th, and 17^th the annual Fresh Paint extravaganza is happening outside the Schack Art Center on Hoyt Avenue.

 

The Art Center is in downtown Everett at 2921 Hoyt Avenue and is open to the public for viewing displays, shopping, classes, etc. It has over 300 artists that sell their work here.  Activities that the Schack offers are outlined below:
