President Michael Kvistad rang the bell at 12:02pm, calling to order meeting #5559 of the Rotary Club of Everett, and meeting #9 of his presidency. He then led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Kevin Nichols brought us the Thought of the Day with a poem by Maya Angelou, “Take One Day Away”.

 

Betsy Baker-Bold introduced Jeff from Boulevard Bluffs Neighborhood Association.

 

President Michael read a poem to the membership, “End of Summer”.

 

Jerry Tucker announced that Don Senter is living at Washington Oaks and would welcome some visitors.

 

President Michael presented a game called Desert Island. If you were stranded on a desert Island, what three items would you like to have?

Kari Quaas went to Vancouver & Whistler, BC and saw a band. When she got home her cat was missing.

 

Betsy Baker-Bold stated that her father, PP Marc Baker was going to ride his Harley-Davidson to Tennessee, but due to the delay of bike parts, he had to fly.

 

Mark Valentine enjoyed a trip to the Grand Coulee Dam, Spokane and The Palouse.

 

Steve Miller had $100 round up birthday bucks.

 

Paul Stoot saw Ashley Bolden at a conference on black business. Also Rise Up Academy will be celebrating its silver anniversary on November 1^st at the Lynnwood Convention Center.

 

Marybeth Dingledy had $22 for 22 years of marriage.

 

Heather Barnhart had $21 with an exchange student update.

Ryan Willis introduced today’s speaker, Jillian Youngblood of Civic Genius. Civic Genius is a national organization for public processes for better constructive engagement. They endeavor to find solutions vs head butting. There currently is a crisis in politics with polarization. 40% of people surveyed stated that the opposing party is downright evil. In reality, we are not as far apart politically as we believe we are. Civic Genius promotes deliberation, working together to solve problems. Government involvement is a key to success. If government can demonstrate that they want to be responsive, then we can turn down the volume on political discourse.

 

It's Your America workshops will be beginning in January in Everett, Seattle & the Eastside.

Jillian then entertained questions from the membership.

 

President Michael thanked our speaker with a donation to Millenia Ministries of Snohomish County. He also thanked our visitor Jeff, and bell ringer Steve Miller.
