ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT

MEETING:
President Michael Kvistad started the 20th meeting of the year and the 5,570th meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Ashley Bolden presented a quote from Marcus Aurelius. The Strong Accept Responsibility. “If we judge as good and evil only the things in the power of our own choice, then there is no room left for blaming gods or being hostile to others.” Or “The buck stops here”

SONG OF THE DAY:
Mark Valentine, dressed in fringe, sang a song called “Woodstock” written and produced by Joni Mitchell in 1970. The song is about a pop festival on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, New York that she and Mark did not attend for various reasons.

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Will McMahan introduced former member Joe Claeys. Joe recently retired and while cleaning his office he found a Bernie Webber print he had purchased at a Rotary Fundraiser many years ago. He graciously donated the print to the club, and it was auctioned for $350 to Kari Petrasek.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
President Michael is planning to reward all the members who participated in Movember by growing a mustache for the month of November to celebrate Foundation Month and raise awareness about prostate cancer.

John Olson. November is Foundation Month. John presented a video about the Rotary Foundation and all the good the Rotary Foundation does in the world. John is dealing playing cards for $50 each with the chance to win a Paul Haris award. He is encouraging members to join in the fun and maybe purchase a poker hand of cards or more.

President Michael reminded the club about Rotary After Hours is Thursday, November 21 at 5pm at the Marriot Hotel Lobby. Bring a friend or family member.

PROGRAM:
Janice Ellis introduced Courtney Hooks and Tobi Echauri – RYLA and YES Students.

Courtney Hooks is a past Everett Rotary Youth Exchange student who spent a year in Italy.  She is a graduate of UW with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Interdisciplinary Honors in Law, Societies, and Justice. She recently attended RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) held at Camp Squeah, Hope, BC. RYLA is a 4-day camp that encourages participants to develop their leadership and team building skills through speakers and activities.

Tobi Echauri is our In-bound Youth Exchange Student from Paraguay. He is currently staying at the Miller’s house. He is a student at Everett High School of Champions. His hobbies are playing guitar, singing, cooking, hiking and hanging out with friends. In Paraguay he likes to race go-carts and hang out with his friends. He also plays volleyball and soccer.  He has a bucket list of things he would like to do while on his exchange. The list includes going to concerts, seeing a hockey/ baseball game, try new food, go skiing and ice skating, visit Canada, visit museums and go on hikes with friends.

Tobi is our Youth Exchange Student, and we are all encouraged to include him in activities that you and your family are doing. Contact Tobi or Janice to organize an outing. Let’s see if we can knock out all the activities on his bucket list plus a few more.

President Michael thanked Courtney and Tobi for the presentation and adjourned the meeting.

NEXT PROGRAM: Student of the Month.
