Thought of the Day

Michael Kvistad, VP, shared that he has congenital heart disease and that he has found help and support through Facebook groups as he sought out others like himself.

Announcements

Michael rang the bell for the three bellringers from the last meeting of the club.  Thanks to last week’s bellringers.

Michael announced that the club was looking for one more volunteer to help at the Downtown Trick-or-Treating booth on Saturday for 2 -4 pm and 4-6:15 pm.

Additionally, there is a Board of Directors meeting at Neil Angst’s office on this Friday, October 28th at 7:30 am.

Happy/Birthday Bucks

Jim Stafford was $100 happy after the local law enforcement in the Tri-cities recovered his lost wallet with all his cash and credit cards.

Kaye Phinney was happy due to her recent trips to Alaska (land and cruise tour) and Albuquerque (balloon festival).

Ralph Quaas was happy.

Betsy Baker-Bold was $100 happy about her recent trip to the Scandinavian countries and her upcoming trip to Maui and wintering in Mexico. She also has a two-bedroom rental in North Everett available.

Program: Social Media

Michael introduced Walt Greenwood as today’s speaker on the topic of social media as part of our Rotary Club.  With the sad decline of print media such as losing the “Way to Go” page in the Herald, social media has become more important to getting the good news out to the community. Goal # 9 of our Club’s Strategic Plan is for our members to utilize social media to promote the Club’s good works to the community. Our members are encouraged to use social media at least one once a month to promote Rotary.

Social media’s most popular platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Recently our club sent out a social media survey to 100+ members to help measure our social media platform use and effectiveness. We had 45 respondents to the survey.  Over 50% of the respondents stated they use social media at least once a day. Facebook is the most popular platform from our respondents. Of the respondents' answers, 50% of them visit the Club’s social media sites occasionally. Several stated that they have liked the Facebook page and receive postings on their pages when our club posts articles on the Club’s Facebook page.

To help us “talk about Rotary,” Walt suggested three key areas for our club to focus on in the future. 1-Update our Social Media platforms and include more club photos and stories. 2-Club member like and share the good news through their own pages. 3-Strengthen our ability to measure our effectiveness through social media. For members, key messages we can share should focus on how Rotary helps the world and all of us.

Past President Amy Norman reminded us to follow the current Facebook page for the Rotary Club of Everett, not the old Facebook page (Everett Rotary).

Halloween Costume

Michael had the four contestants for the annual costume contest come to the podium and campaign for our votes on best costume. The candidates were Amy Norman (Statute of Liberty), Ralph Quaas (Eagle), Mark Valentine (Japanese Chef) and Walt Greenwood (cowboy)

Raffle

Neil Angst conducted the weekly raffle. Congratulations to our winners this week Steve Miller – Bottle of Scotch, Greg Tisdel-lunch and Scott Casselman Wine and Candy.
